Code: 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 033 033 036 2749 ABNORMAL each day i assume that this drive is about to fail its service in the near future. So i already did a backup of all data from the NAS just to be sure but now to my actual question. As i want to increase the overall available disk space, but don't want to have the same trouble as now in finding enough external harddrives to backup the total data amount of the NAS just because of one (faulty) drive, i want to set up a raid 5. My goal is to replace the faulty 2 TB disk with a 4 TB disk from the same manifacturer (Seagate ST4000VM000) that is also mentioned in the compatibility list for my NAS. I know that it is not recommended to use different disk sizes in a NAS but i can not afford to replace all drives with 4 TB drives at the moment. ![]() Setting Up Microsoft Iscsi Software TargetAs far as my understanding of raid 5 goes i assume that with the 1 x 4TB + 3 x 2TB i would end up with an usable amount of ~5.6TB disk space in the raid 5 as the 4TB drive would be used as distributed parity!? ( if i'm wrong please correct me) So my guess is that i have to invest in at least another 4 TB drive so that 2 x 4TB + 2 x 2TB drive would lead to nearly the same available space (~ 7.4TB) i had when using JBOD but with the raid 5 features and i could easily replace the remaining 2 x 2TB drives one after another when i have the money to do so. Are there any faults in my way of thinking or is it not possible (or even damaging) to use a raid 5 with different size disks? Read the and use the forum search feature before posting.
